Family Life at Lyndhurst
Lyndhurst is not just about architecture, antiques, and its landscape. It is also very much a story about the three families who lived here from 1842 -1961 and the families who worked for them. Children always played a special role, including the 10 children of the owners, their cousins, and friends, as well as the children of the staff who lived at Lyndhurst full time. This tour looks at the 180-year-old home and grounds through the eyes of those who lived, played, and worked here and is designed for our younger guests, ages 7-12, and their families.
You will visit rooms on the first and second floor of the Mansion used by these children for schooling, playing, eating, sleeping, and working.
This 50-minute tour begins at the Welcome Center and requires a brief uphill walk to the mansion. It is not recommended for children under 7 years of age.
Please present printed tour tickets or have them available on your smartphone to show to Welcome Center staff when checking in for your tour.
All visitors must have a pre-purchased ticket to enter the Mansion. A limited number of tickets are available for each tour and tickets do sell out. If you are taking a tour, you do NOT need to purchase a Daily Grounds Pass. All ticket purchases are non-refundable.
There is a limited number of walk-on availability for Mansion Tours. Please visit the Welcome Center to see if we can accommodate you on a tour!
All tours are limited to ten participants.
