Hudson River Views Tour
This walking tour traverses the lower western portion of the Lyndhurst landscape and leads visitors from the Lyndhurst mansion and its marble garden furniture and fountains down through a series of garden sitting areas and rock outcroppings known as “rockeries” which offers sweeping views of the Hudson River. As part of a large landscape restoration project, this tour will showcase the current replanting work taking place on this section of the grounds. The tour concludes at the restored riverside 19th-century bowling alley building with its exhibit on Lyndhurst’s fourth owner, Helen Gould, and Lyndhurst neighbor Madam C.J. Walker.
This tour discusses the history of the estate and its residents with some discussion of trees and historic plantings. The tour departs from the Welcome Center and requires the ability to walk over the uneven hilly ground for at least one hour. While much of this tour goes downhill on cement pathways, it requires an uphill walk to return to the Welcome Center. It is not recommended for those with mobility issues or children under 12 years of age.
