Lyndhurst Landscape Volunteer 2025
Every Thursday, April 3rd to November 6th, 2025
Be a Lyndhurst Landscape Volunteer!
Most volunteer programs at Lyndhurst are in the landscape and are a great way to expand your gardening knowledge, give back to your community, meet new people, and share your love of horticulture. Our Landscape Volunteers work with our Curator of Historic Landscapes to help preserve and maintain our historic gardens and grounds.
Volunteer days are every Thursday, from April 3rd to November 6th, 2025. You are welcome to join on any volunteer day. The hours are 9:30 am-12:00 pm. You are welcome to stay for part of the time, or the whole session. First-time volunteers should arrive at 9:30 for a quick orientation.

Lyndhurst’s restored historic and specialty gardens are supported by dedicated garden groups that seek volunteers to help maintain these vibrant gardens.
Fern Garden: Home to one of the most comprehensive collections of hardy ferns in New York State, with over 100 varieties of ferns from around the world. The Friends of Lyndhurst Fern Garden actively maintain this garden and welcome volunteers. Contact: Haig Brown
Rock Gardens: Lyndhurst’s rock gardens contain an array of alpine and seasonal plantings maintained by the Hudson Valley Chapter of the North American Rock Garden Society. Volunteers are welcome! Contact: Don Dembowski
Rose Garden: The Rose Garden, created in the early 1900s, was one of Helen Gould’s most memorable contributions to Lyndhurst. In the 1970s, the Garden Club of Irvington restored the garden. Today, it is maintained by Lyndhurst staff with the help of volunteers. Email us!
