The painting collection at Lyndhurst is largely the bulk of Jay Gould’s of French and continental academic paintings purchased right before Americans became interested in impressionists and old master paintings. The paintings were largely purchased from Goupil and its successor Knoedler and many of the paintings are in their original exquisite period frames. The paintings collection includes some additions acquired by Helen Gould and Anna Gould, Duchess of Talleyrand.
