Celebrate America’s 250th
Our curators have created two patriotic displays inspired by decor Lyndhurst owner Helen Goud once hung in her home on 5th Avenue in honor of her philanthropic work during the Spanish-American War. This display in the reception room is a backdrop for a special work on loan: a maquette of President Lincoln’s head by American sculptor Daniel Chester French, created for a statue of Lincoln at the Nebraska State Capitol. The head comes from our partner site, Chesterwood, located in Stockbridge, MA.
Also included are an 18th-century-inspired costume worn by Helen Gould to an NYC party c. 1900, and our iconic Horatio Greenough marble busts of George Washington and the Marquis de Lafayette.
