Paula Hayes: Renewal

To recreate the magical setting of the Overlook rising from the environment, Lyndhurst tasked contemporary land artist and sculptor Paula Hayes with creating a new permanent installation around the structure. The artist-designed garden comprises exclusively native plants, many of which appear in early 20th-century horticultural catalogs in our archives. Hayes has also created four sculptures drawing on Victorian garden vernacular: a birdbath, two gazing balls, and a garden gnome. The installation loosely follows the form of a mandala and offers multiple opportunities for interaction and discovery.
